Good Monday

Whenever I have a bonus comic on Fridays, it feels like I haven't written anything in forever--at least on the blog. I hope you enjoyed our first guest comic by Aleric. If you did, drop him a line or spend some time reading Hell Has Found Me.

As for me, the weekend was rather full but still laid-back. Went to Dave and Buster's on Saturday night, playing me some random arcade games and shooting the crap out of some spiders and things on a weird shooter called Go Jungle Safari, or something. Then on Sunday, I went to Nebraska City, met some colleagues, and enjoyed getting hit on by a 50+ waitress. I also was introduced to the wonder of a Dr. Pepper ICEE. I think my heart stopped at the thought, then I drank one, and it wasn't nearly as good as I'd wanted, but trying new things is always good, right?

But the best news of the weekend came in the form of a packet return from my mentor, Patricia Henley. Her kind words and suggestions boosted by writing ego back to where it should be--a little above thinking that every word I write is crap. In fact, I must leave you to write my response to her.

Gibberish tomorrow, starting off a special Robot Week--a theme that will come along rather frequently, I'm guessing, along with angels and zombies, too.

+I Need a Hero+ (Special Guest: Scott Aleric)

As I talked about on Monday and then amended Wednesday, here is the special guest comic by Scott Aleric, a most friendly and personable person. His fantastic comic, Hell Has Found Me, that updates every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, can be found here. Anyone with, or without, a foot in the Warcraft door will find his comic--with it's playful (albeit awesome) art and amusing anecdotes--more than worth your time. And if his comic isn't enough, Scott has an impressive deviantart portfolio, filled with all sorts of beasts, additional comics, and fantasyscapes.

Big round of applause for Scott and being the first guest artist for Gibberish. (If any of you are interested in doing a guest spot on Gibberish, feel free to contact me at clicktrackheartblog(at)gmail(dot)com.)

Of course I mean besides razing villages and teasing harpies. Duh.

Amended

I lied to you on Monday. The guest artist for Gibberish will not actually appear until Friday, as a special bonus comic to carry the weekend through. His name, or pen name, is Scott Aleric, and you can find his amusing comic, Hell Has Found Me, here. He also has a stunning deviantart gallery.

Honestly, I can't thank him enough for lending his comic talents to Gibberish. I'm all about the cross-blending and synthesis of talents, so seeing something like this come together, on my personal site no less, just about makes me tinkle in me trousers.

I hope you take some time to visit Aleric's sites. It's a good time/entertainment investment. Plus, he's a cool guy. So check out Hell Has Found Me. What more reason do you need than to support global coolness? (It's the only way to stop the warming.)

Since this will be the last post for the week, besides the comics of course, I bid you all a mighty fine day, rest of the week, and weekend.

No Time, Must Write

Hi Everyone:

I hope your weekends were fantastic. Mine was filled with writing and talking and more writing and more talking. Feel like my voice is about to die out, but whatever, I don't need a voice to write. My paper is going pretty good, though I've got a bit more to do by the end of today, which is what I'll be doing the minute this is posted.

In other, better news, I not only got interweb working at home, but I've got a guest artist scheduled for Thursday's Gibberish. I'll talk more about that on Wednesday, though I will say that the comic is very much in the Gibberish vein.

Gibberish, by me, tomorrow. I'll see you then.

This Weekend Will Not Be Fun

First, after work, I need to go grocery shopping. YAY! This will be followed by a fun time trip to the DMV! YAY! At least I'm going for some tasty food tonight. Then tomorrow should be a wonderful day. Sunday though, will be filled with paper writing! YAY!

And on top of that, I'll have next week's comics to start getting together. I'm in the midst of finding some guest artists for Gibberish. Since I'm basically taking long forgotten doodles, then finding good words to put with them, I'm seeking any artist willing to pass me a forgotten doodle and allow it to become a part of Gibberish. I figure this way, it isn't much work for the artist, they get to showcase more of their work, and I receive a day off from compiling my doodles into something more than bordem induced hallucinations. SO, if you're an artist with some beloved drawing or doodle that you've had no idea what to do with, send it my way with "Gibberish Guest Art" as the header to clicktrackheartblog(at)gmail(dot)com. I can't pay, but you'll get full credit for the art, a nice introduction by yours truly, and I'll link to whatever pages you wish. It'll be one more cred for your CV. What have you got to lose? (Plus, it will appear on two sites, here and on my page at webcomicsnation.com, totalling anywhere from 75-160 visits per day.)

Now that that shameless plug/request is over and done with, I'm off to figure out what movies come out today and whether or not there will be time to see one.

Have yourselves a wonderful weekend, and don't forget your fancy walking (see below).

Almost Forgot to Do This...

And I even have things to talk about. Basically my life has been one impressed adventure after the next. Well, really only two things, but that was enough to spawn this.

First, if you own an XBOX 360 and have access to the internet, there is no reason for you not to own the amazing game Braid. Truly, anyone looking for a stunning platformer or puzzle game need look no further. I discovered the thing while reading about the amount of people complaining that its $15.00 price tag was too much. Believe me, it is worth every penny. I've spent WAY more on games not near as good. Do yourselves a favor and play something that is actually worth your time.

The other is a book. How Fiction Works by James Wood is, by and large, the best book on writing I've ever read. It's such a down to earth approach that anyone, writer or not, will appreciate his dissection of the craft of writing. Though I love my teachers, I feel like I've learned more from this one book than from any of them. (Sorry, guys.) If you have any interest in fiction, you should read this book.

With that, I've got just about everything covered. More Gibberish tomorrow. New We've Got Brains. Have a wonderful evening.

Weird...

Guess who has an art show scheduled for January? (Visualize me, pointing my thumbs back at myself.) That's right, this guy.

Back on Friday afternoon, out of the blue, one of my friends that I thought had fallen off the face of the earth, calls me up and says he's got a show scheduled for January and wanted me to be a part of it. And, of course, I did not do the smart thing and say "no," since I have more than enough to fill my platter at the moment, and now I must make new arts to wow and astound and possibly sell. I'll try and post some of my works so the world can see what Lincoln gets to.

Other than that, I've really just been buried in my paper, reading heaps of criticism and theory and interviews having to do with Magical Realism. Fascinating stuffs--to me at least.

Oh, and before I go, I must complain about Super Ghouls n' Ghosts. That game...is ridiculous. I never knew anything about some stupid Goddess Bracelet. Stupid Princess, should've just dropped the thing when the demon first comes in and gets her... (If you don't know what I'm talking about, go through and "beat" the thing, and you'll probably see what I mean.)

Actually Made Some Headway

I spent the majority of last night reading theory and criticism of Magical Realism. A bit more interesting than I thought it would be, but I suppose that is the way it should go when you study something that actually interests you. So, yeah, made some good headway on my critical paper, pulling some good quotes from these smarty pantses that will help bolster my own ramblings.

Plus, I even started a new short story last night--at least is better be a short story, seeing as I'm writing it for my next residency. It probably isn't the wisest thing to begin such a venture--I already have plenty on my platter--but I can't help it. This story was starting to gel in my noggin, and if I didn't start scooping it out, I probably never would--or it would drive me crazy. Instead of the incapacitating crazy, I decided to spend an hour writing away.

Really, that's about the extent of things. Will most likely see Burn After Reading this weekend, but I don't know when, and I won't promise a review either. My track record has gotten a bit shoddy as of late.

Anyway, have a good weekend, and I wish you the best in all of your ventures.

The Aforementioned Little Things

When life allows you to find such things as this, you'd be a terrible puppy-killing person if you did not pass them on. So here, I hope it amuses you even half as much as it did me.

Also, a new We've Got Brains is up. More Gibberish tomorrow.

Drilled Teeth = Burning Cheetos

Every time I get a filling or work done on my grinders, I'm always disturbed by the smell of burning Cheetos eminating from my mouth. I like Cheetos, and grinding teeth and Cheetos is not a connection I would like to make. Makes me wonder what other peoples teeth taste like. Must be nice to by a cyclops, or some other man-eating monster.

I bring this up because I now have a plastic temporary crown in my mouth. They told me that if it pops off, I can remedy the situation temporarily by rubbing Vaseline on the inside, then stuffing it back over my original tooth's remains. Who knew Vaseline was so versatile?

At least I'm more on top of things this week. Gibberish will drop at Midnight. Same goes for Thursday. There is even a possibility of a bonus comic this week, since I'm so on top of things. Plus, I may end up with a guest artist for either Gibberish or We've Got Brains. You can find her work here. And if any of the rest of you are interested in providing artwork for either of my comics, just contact me: clicktrackheartblog(at)gmail(dot)com, and I'll see what we can do.

Oh, and I saw Animation Show vol. 4. Very much worth your time. Mayhap I'll get a review up for it this week, but the way things have gone, I doubt it. *sigh* Apparently I need to start taking speed to get everything done in my 24-hour days.

A Jumbling Week

I realize that things didn't go very smoothly this week, with the late comics and lack of film reviews. Between moving and a busier week at work, it's amazing how much my life gets thrown out of whack and how much I depend on my work time for accomplishing my tasks. I didn't even touch either my critical essay or my novel this week--and I now have just a little over two weeks to pull something together. Sure, it sounds like plenty of time, but considering the amount of work my paper needs...

I don't even want to think about it. This is supposed to be a fun weekend. My wife has a birthday tomorrow. I'm going to see the Animation Show Vol. 4 and possibly another film. The house should FINALLY be in order. Things is looking up in the Smith household.

Anyway, I hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and I'll see you on Monday.

Still Catching Up

It was late, yes, but Gibberish was done yesterday. And as some of you might already have seen, We've Got Brains is late, but it is on the way. I assure you. Regardless, tomorrow's Gibberish will drop around midnight--as long as the whole "scheduled post" thing works. It's the best one yet.

As for regular life, still trying to get the house in order, get caught up on all my work fun and restart mark work on both my critical essay and novel. Now, more than ever, I want to get my novel finished, out of my head, and into the world. So close...

I also had some mighty weird dreams last night, combining tornados and stylish clubs based on obscure video games that are really closer to Country Bear Jamboree than a swank place. I'm rather haunted by this bizzare dream--mostly because of its vividity and how well it seems to have planted itself into my noggin.

Have any dreams like this? I'd love to hear about someone else's subconscious for a change.

Mark, this one is for you.

Moving Disrupts Everything--It Even Ruins Holidays

My internet is shoddy. My house is a wreck. And now that we're in the new place I just--right before this--changed my address. Ah, the joys of forgetting every little nook and cranny of moving.

Luckily, I had some time to check out a film today. Watched me some Death Race, and surprisingly enough, it wasn't nearly as terrible as I'd thought it would be. I may even review it. In the meantime though, I have a few more things I'd like to get done around the house, and because of this, Gibberish will be around tomorrow but probably not until the evening. Same will go for Wednesday's We've Got Brains.

And now...

...off to the basement.
