I like weird things. In fact, I'm very much drawn to them. Yet when I come across something truly bizarre, I can't help but wonder where in the world did these people come up with this stuff.
Big Man Japan is one such thing. Some of the oddest things and some of the best character development I've seen in a film in quite awhile.
The film starts slow though, very slow. I almost turned it off slow, but there was just enough of a "What in the world is going on?" to keep me going. And I'm glad I did. Director Hitashi Matsumoto has crafted an odd mix of mockumentary, Godzilla-esque monster fights, and character examination.
The monster fights will have you shaking your head at their ridiculousness, but it's really the plight of the main character that will keep you going. The hero, Masaru, has such a craptastic life that you can't help but root for him and WANT him to succeed at what he does.
Really, I don't even think I can put into words why you should watch this. The best I can come up with is that About Schmidt found itself in a three-way involving Godzilla films and the non-sequitur of Cartoon Network's Adult swim.
Really though, if you like mockumentaries or over-sized monster fights or just a fully-realized character, you should give this one a go. It is on Instant Watch through Netflix, so it's not even a hard thing to track down.

+Waiting, Still, More+
As a colleague of mine might say: "She's been attacked by the booly." (Booly, boo+lee: a state in which boobies and a belly become one.)

Fuzzy
My brain is numb today. Feels like I don't know what is what, or who is who, or which project of the many I should be working on.
Had a weird dream last night involving The Incredibles and Venture Brothers. Not exactly sure how the two overlapped, but I kept waking up because of it, then going back into the same dream. Something to do with a water park, and The Monarch and Sgt. Hatred inadvertantly kill Mr. Incredible, Dr. Venture, and Brock all at once, leaving the brothers to themselves. Not sure what happened to the rest of The Incredibles crew.
Who knows, maybe this is an omen: Pixar making a Venture Brothers film? Brad Bird directing an episode? Doc Hammer going to work for Pixar? Or Disney's next purchase: Adult Swim.
I suppose only time will tell how prophetic I am--and here's hoping that I'm simply full of dookie.

"Do You See a Problem With the Stunt Cock?"
I wonder if it also tells the story of how she became white in two weeks...Found this awhile back and just forgot about using it. This is probably better than anything I'll ever come up with in Gibberish, but what can you do--people's failures are often more amusing than people's successes.
In other news, I finished reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest last night, and it is a book that everyone should read. And I don't say this lightly--especially if you write yourself. Kesey has created characters so wonderful, and situations reeking with tension, that anyone paying attention can learn by leaps and bounds from this novel. Read it--even if you've seen the movie (which is still a good flick, just different.)
Also, I started working on my first "real" painting the other night, on canvas and everything. It's going alright, I just wish it didn't take so long for the paint to dry. Stupid oils. Teach me not to just use acrylic. I'll be sure to post a pic of it once it is finished--maybe even turn it into a Gibberish. We'll see.
Have yourselves a wonderful day, and I'll see you tomorrow.

+Too Far+
Making out with Edgar Allen Poe's corpse would be pretty awesome. He probably foresaw as much years ago in a drunken vision.
(Sorry about the late post, I totally spaced getting this lined up the other night.)

Trip Pt. 4: Return to Vegas

That, my friends, is a urinal. Don't ask me why I had a camera in my pocket, but seeing as I did and no one else was in the the bathroom, I took a picture. And why shouldn't I have? This thing is bizarre. The only reason I even knew it was a urinal was from the small homemade sign next to it that said, "Urinal." Apparently this gas station wants its customers to piss in style.
There really isn't much else to report for the ride home. I was tired, we all were, yet I still stayed awake for the sake of my brother-in-law. (And for those of you rather tired of this trip report, don't worry, I'll finish up on Friday. More Gibberish tomorrow.)

The Continuing Saga of Space Bird
Here he is in all his painted glory. All things considered, I'm pretty excited about this whole venture. It came out better than I ever though possible. The only thing left is to build the diorama that he will live inside, floating forever in space. (Through his creation and my continued amusement by just looking at him, I think there is something wrong with my brain meats.)Plus, I was mighty impressed with my friend's tiny camera (the top right picture is my favorite). That thing can take quite the picture once you get the settings where you want them. I shall purchase such an item--and soon.
As for the weekend, there will be lots more prep for our vacation. I still need to get things together so I won't miss a post while I'm gone--I will reveal a Gibberish surprise next week. Plus, I need to finish up a few more of my arts, as I won't have much time to work on such things while I'm on vacation.
Have yourself a super fine weekend, and I'll see you around on Monday.
