Live-ing the Rifftrax

Last night, Lincoln--of all places--was one of the few venues that hosted the live feed of RiffTrax presents: Plan 9 from Outer Space live last night. I was lucky enough to attend.

It amazed me how different the feel of the whole thing was in the larger context. Not actually being in the theatre where the RiffTrax crew riffed from, it wasn't a whole lot different from simply watching a DVD at home. However, watching a RiffTrax with 100 people instead of 5 is quite a new thing entirely. The biggest difference/problem came from the fact that more people laughed over what might've been another joke. That part sucked, as I felt like I missed out on some of the more amusing moments in the Riff. Though, I will admit, that laughing alongside that many people really adds to the overall enjoyment of the thing--especially when I knew that I had friend's in another state laughing right along with us.

It wasn't really anything amazing, as I didn't figure it would be, but it improved my mood for the day, which had taken a turn for the worse (writing did not go well yesterday). I'll admit that it was well-worth the admission fee, though--something I haven't been able to say for most of the films I've seen this summer. Hopefully you have a wonderful film weekend--if not, make it better by downloading and watching a RiffTrax--and I'll see you Monday.

Happy Birthday to Me

I'm now closer to 30 than 20, and it's rather frightening. In many ways, I still feel like I'm 16, 17 tops. However, I know that if I was exactly as I was back then, I wouldn't be married, I doubt I'd have many friends, and I would probably get punched on a daily basis.

Bad news for the B-Day is that I have to work the whole day. No time off for me. Luckily, we already celebrated the day with tasty Indian food, a Rifftrax of The Matrix, and playing my newest video game, Samba de Amigo for the Wii (I've had it on Dreamcast for years.)

I have some good news in that I completed the sculpting of Space Bird--for my upcoming art show. I'll try and post a pic of the unpainted figure for Wednesday, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get my hands on a digital camera in time... (I know, here I am neck deep in the digital age, and I don't have even a trashy digital camera. Soon though, I hope.) Space Bird will soon take the world by storm.

Have a wonderful day, and check back tomorrow, as I kick off the start of Gibberish's Christmas themes.

Someone Watching Over Me

On Friday, while a friend of mine and I perused Yellowed Pages, a local used book store, my wife calls me with some disturbing news. We were having some electrical work done on the place we're renting--a few of the outlets weren't working right--and the electrician shows her the problem. Apparently a wire had come loose, so we had a hot wire not grounded to anything that had been sparking, if not flaming, as noted by the scorching on the back of the panel. From what the electrician said, a nice old guy with three missing fingers, we were one step away from the house burning down. Granted, we have renter's insurance but still...

Other than my few purchased books--some B.C. comics, a 50s paperback printing of Lafacdio's Adventures, and an old paperback of The Illustrated Man by the amazing Ray Bradbury--the only other notable happening was my friend's discovery of Rifftrax. On Saturday night we downloaded and watched the Jurassic Park one. That stuff is wicked hilarious, and I can't wait to watch some of the others.

Didn't get a chance to see any of the new films from last week, but our theatres around here are running a special of $4.00 a movie for today through Thursday, so I will probably be frequenting that place for the next few days.

Happy Monday, and we've got Gibberish tomorrow.
